Pellet Stoves For Sale – Heat Your Home Cleanly-Efficiently And
Safely
Pellet stoves are a sophisticated, clean, efficient, safe, and inexpensive alternative to rising home heating
costs. There are two types of pellet stoves: freestanding and fireplace inserts. Both produce small, hot fires, so
they work well in homes as well as apartments or condominiums. They are far more convenient to run than traditional
wood burning stoves and their heating and combustion efficiencies are much higher.
Freestanding pellet stoves are available in a wide variety of styles and shapes, and many are small enough to
fit into just about any area. A freestanding pellet stove looks very similar to a traditional wood stove and can
easily be used to heat large rooms or small homes.
Fireplace inserts are easily installed into existing fireplaces, and they have panels to fill any space between
the insert and the fireplace opening. They can be installed either in masonry fireplaces or in a factory-built
metal fireplace, but prospective owners should be sure the insert and fireplace are compatible.
Bricks or another nonflammable material are applied to the floor at the front of the pellet stove to provide the
appearance of a fireplace. A floor protector is also necessary and additional spacers are sometimes installed to
provide air space around the unit.
Both the freestanding and fireplace insert pellet stoves come in either bottom-fed or top-fed models. In
bottom-fed models, ash from the pellets is pushed into an ash pan. This pan must be cleaned periodically. Top-fed
stoves have a hopper that delivers pellets to the fire. Manufacturers recommend using low-ash, high-grade pellets
so as not to interfere with the stoves internal parts. Bottom-fed models do not require these high-grade
pellets.
Both types of pellet stoves have motors that require electricity, so the stove must plug into an outlet. Heat
output range measures the heat distribution from pellet fireplace inserts. Most range from 8,000 to 90,000
BTUs.
The fuel for a pellet stove consists of small, compressed pellets made from ground, dried wood, compacted wood
chips, bark, sawdust, agricultural crop waste, and other biomass waste. They are some of the cleanest wood-burning
heating appliances available and are highly efficient.
Some other pellet stoves, known as corn stoves, burn kernels of dried corn instead of the compressed wood
pellets. Certain models of pellet stoves can burn corn kernels as well.
Pellet stoves are highly convenient and easy to use. A fire can be started simply by pushing a button or
adjusting the thermostat. Pellet stoves are also clean burning and therefore better for air quality. They burn far
more efficiently and create much less ash than wood, so cleaning is much easier.
The pellets themselves require far less storage space than wood, as they are typically packaged in 40-pound
bags. Finally, pellet stove heat is easily regulated either by using the thermostat or by adjusting the heat output
on the stove itself.
If you are sick of paying the ever-rising costs of heating your home, a pellet stove is an inexpensive, clean
alternative.
